| Downtown 2002
Wayne Wilson-Wong Downtown 2002 is a series of thirteen large format panoramic colour transparency photographs printed on digital Fuji Crystal Archive 1.25m long taken in Auckland’s downtown CBD district over a three-month period in 2002. The images symbolize the unstoppable growth currently experienced by much of New Zealand as we move into the 21st century. The work documents the dramatic amount of construction and progress in the downtown area and attempts to operate not as before or after images, but more representative of the space in between that is transition. The downtown waterfront property has finally been realized as a prime development opportunity. Today most of the buildings, footpaths, car parks and public spaces within these photographs have been replaced or completed, leaving the scenes somewhat unrecognizable when revisited in the real. |
